Abstract

O Brasil é o 5º produtor mundial de medicamentos. Entretanto, 48% desta produção encontra-se distribuída perversamente para uma parcela de 15% da população, que tem renda mensal acima de 10 salários mínimos, e apenas 16% da produção destina-se às necessidades de saúde dos 51% da população que tem renda abaixo de 4 salários mínimos. (RESOLUÇÃO 2000; RELATÓRIO DA CPÍ, 2000). Estas diferenças poderiam ser minimizadas pela adoção de medidas político-econômicas que valorizam a produção nacional de fármacos voltada ao atendimento das camadas mais carentes, através do fortalecimento dos Parques Nacionais de Laboratórios Oficiais, incentivo a produção de genéricos, dentre outras possibilidades (BERMUDEZ, 1995; RELATÓRIO DA CPI, 2000).
