Abstract

A automedicação é um procedimento que se caracteriza pela iniciativa do paciente, ou de seu responsável direto, em obter e utilizar um medicamento sem que este tenha sido prescrito por um médico, afim de obter benefícios para o tratamento de sua doença. Este fenômeno é legalizado e vem crescendo em todo o mundo. Na 1ª Conferência Regional Latino Americana da Indústria Internacional da Automedicação, foi discutido o conceito da automedicação responsável – internacionalmente conhecido pelo uso de OTC’s – “on the couter” (sobre o balcão), que são os medicamentos que não requerem prescrição e que têm sua venda livre.
