Abstract

No Brasil, as primeiras referências à farmácia datam do século XVI, com os boticários, profissionais empíricos que, em estabelecimentos denominados boticas, eram os responsáveis pela manipulação e fornecimento de medicamentos no país até que a profissão farmacêutica fosse instituída e aceita pela sociedade. De acordo com Cervi (2002), a mudança da Família Real e da Corte Portuguesa para o Brasil em 1808, foi um marco para a história da farmácia. Um dos primeiros atos de D. João VI, tendo em vista as péssimas condições sanitárias e de higiene do país naquela época, foi agilizar o ensino da medicina e farmácia.
