Abstract

O termo “compliance” significa o quanto o comportamento de uma pessoa (em termos de tomada de medicamentos, seguimento de dietas ou modificação de estilo de vida) coincide com as recomendações médicas ou de saúde(HAYNES et al., 1981). Na língua portuguesa, traduz‑se como cumprimento ou obediência. O paciente encontra‑se numa posição passiva no que tange às decisões a serem tomadas sobre seu tratamento. Já o termo “adherence” significa o quanto o comportamento de uma pessoa (tomada de medicamentos, seguir uma dieta, ou mudar hábitos de vida) corresponde com as recomendações acordadas com um profissional de saúde (WHO, 2003). Na língua portuguesa traduz‑se como adesão ou aderência.
