Modifiable risk factors, such as obesity, physical inactivity, poor diet, and knowledge about the disease,
play a crucial role in the development of diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. The objective was to
evaluate the risk factors and the level of knowledge about arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus of
chronic patients who attend a family health unit of the central department. The study was a cross-sectional
descriptive observational study carried out from May to June 2021, and non-probabilistic convenience
sampling. The information was obtained using a structured questionnaire to collect sociodemographic data
and lifestyle habits, to assess knowledge about the diseases, the Berbés questionnaire and the Knowledge
about Hypertension (CSH) questionnaire, in addition, weight, abdominal circumference and blood pressure.
50 people participated, all of them had high blood pressure and 19 also had type 2 diabetes, with an age
range of 52 to 74 years. 62% have obesity problems and a high cardiovascular risk, 94% have an inadequate
diet and 76% do not do physical activity. The values of the measured parameters were outside the normal
range. The level of knowledge about the pathologies was low, being 12.82 ±5.66 points for the CSH, and
08.42 ±7.18 points for the Berbés. The Pharmacist can contribute with educational interventions to raise
awareness of the importance of adopting healthy lifestyle habits and improve knowledge about pathologies.
