Abstract

Ginkgo biloba Linné, planta da família Ginkgoaceae, é o único sobrevivente de uma Ordem que foi largamente representada, até o fim da era jurássica, sendo, por isso, considerado um fóssil vivo. É uma árvore cultuada por sua robustez frente a cataclismas variados, sendo, por isso, chamada de “Árvore da Vida”.É utilizada como medicinal, desde longa data, tendo registro de uso pelos chineses desde 2.800 a.C. (Chen Houng Pen T’são - Imperador Shen Nun). Apresenta entre seus constituintes químicos flavonóides simples e complexos (24%), diterpenos (gincolídeos A, B, C, J e M - 6%) e sesquiterpenos (bilobalídeo) (Rocha, L. et al., 2005).
