O DIABETES MELLITUS (DM) NA FARMÁCIA DE DISPENSAÇÃO

Abstract

A Associação Americana de Diabetes (American Diabetes Association) estima que 13 milhões de cidadãos americanos são afetados pelo DM. Destes, apenas 6,5 milhões estão diagnosticados. Ou seja, para cada paciente diagnosticado, tem-se um paciente não diagnosticado. Outro dado interessante apresentado pela American Diabetes Association refere-se ao crescimento da população portadora de DM: 677 mil novos casos são diagnosticados a cada ano. Além disso, o DM é atualmente considerado a terceira causa de morte nos EUA, perdendo apenas para as doenças do coração e câncer.
